Lone Peak rises 11,167 feet above sea level in the Madison Range of southwestern Montana. Not that there are any seas nearby. This eminent mountain is the iconic and unmistakable geographic landmark of the Big Sky ski area. And the surrounding region has become popular hiking, fishing, and camping territory, especially in summer and fall.
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature's sources never fail." — John Muir
“If you’re looking for a vacation concept that combines the element of outdoor fun with the element of potentially knocking down a tree with your face, you can’t do better than skiing.” — Dave Barry
