If you hike from the parking area at Tettegouche State Park on Minnesota’s north shore of Lake Superior, down a path to the beach below, you won’t see this scene anymore. It changed significantly after 2010, when the connecting arch collapsed, leaving only a lone rock pillar standing next to the main rock of the small peninsula.

In late 2019, after an early winter storm, the solitary rock pillar also toppled into the lake, leaving only the rocky peninsula itself to face Superior’s pounding waves.

It’s still a beautiful view, with Shovel Point in the distance, but the arch is gone.
